Description:

Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. WITA. Students from the Kalimantan Institute of Technology's Information Systems Study Program carried out a Community Service activity with the theme “Social Media as a Space for Positive Interaction Through Digital Ethics.” This activity was carried out based on the Major Assignment Project for the Management and Organization course. This activity was carried out by a team of 19 students. The series of activities was held at the Yaumiddin Foundation Orphanage located at KM 24, North Balikpapan District, Balikpapan City. The target audience for this activity was the residents of the Yaumiddin Foundation Orphanage, including all the children and orphanage administrators. Additionally, the purpose of this activity was to provide guidance, training, and relevant facility support tailored to the orphanage's needs. The implementing group also conducted interactive education sessions aimed at creating a more engaging and enjoyable learning environment, enabling the children to grow more confident, independent, and competitive.

This activity was attended by 20 foster children consisting of 13 boys and 7 girls aged 3-12 years. To ensure that the activity ran smoothly, the organizing team provided laptops as a medium for presenting the material interactively so that the children could understand it clearly. The theme of this socialization activity was the wise and ethical use of social media. It was hoped that after this socialization, the children at the orphanage would be able to apply ethics in social media and learn how to use social media properly and correctly. In between the material presented, the organizing team conducted ice breaking activities to make the participants more focused and enthusiastic. The organizing team also gave snacks as a token of appreciation to participants who actively asked questions and were able to answer the questions given by the organizing team. After the material presentation session was over, the organizing team invited the participants to make origami crafts. The aim was to train their skills, creativity, and patience through the art of paper folding. At the end of the activity, the organizing team gave appreciation gifts to active participants and those with the most interesting origami creations. Documentation of the activity can be seen in Figure 1. The expected outcome of this socialization activity is that the children and other residents of the orphanage will be wise in using social media and apply proper social media etiquette.
