The workshop titled “Beyond The Prompt: Leveling Up Thesis and Career Preparation with AI” was organized in response to the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which has significantly transformed various sectors, including education, creative industries, healthcare, and digital business. As future technology practitioners, students of Informatics and Information Systems are expected not only to understand AI concepts theoretically but also to apply them effectively and responsibly in real-world contexts.
Despite the fast-paced development of AI, a gap still exists between technological advancements and students’ levels of literacy and practical skills in utilizing AI productively and ethically. Therefore, there is a growing need for structured and application-oriented learning activities that align with both academic and industry demands.
As part of its commitment to enhancing graduate quality, the Faculty of Science and Information Technology (FSTI) collaborated with Yayasan Generasi Maju Berkarya (YGMB) to organize this workshop as a platform for structured learning. The program was designed to equip students with both comprehensive understanding and practical skills in leveraging AI technologies.
The workshop was held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the Auditorium of Building A, ITK, from 08:00 to 15:00 WITA. The event featured Allicia Viona, a Tech Mentor at Apple Developer Academy at BINUS, as the main speaker, which was attended by 160 participants. Participants received materials based on a Google-oriented curriculum and were awarded e-certificates as recognition of their participation.
The materials covered three main topics: Research with AI, Ethics of AI, and Building a Portfolio with AI. Participants were introduced to tools such as NotebookLM through case-based learning to support research activities. In addition, they were guided on how to evaluate information using five key quality criteria: timeliness, relevance, authority, accuracy, and purpose. In the portfolio development session, participants learned how to utilize tools such as Lovable AI to create professional portfolio websites efficiently.
The workshop was not limited to lectures, as it also included interactive mentoring sessions that allowed participants to engage directly with the speaker. In addition, the event featured the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between FSTI and YGMB, reinforcing their commitment to student competency development in the field of technology.
Overall, the workshop was successfully conducted and received high enthusiasm from participants. Active participation during discussions was appreciated through the distribution of merchandise. It is expected that this activity will enhance students’ literacy and skills in utilizing AI effectively and responsibly, while also preparing them to face academic and professional challenges in the digital era.
